Maxi Dress Biography

A maxi dress (also known as a frock or a gown) is a garment consisting of a skirt with an attached bodice (or a matching bodice giving the effect of a one-piece garment). In Western culture, dresses are usually considered to be items of women's and girls' apparel.
The hemlines of dresses vary depending on the whims of fashion and the modesty or personal taste of the wearer.

History:
Dresses increased dramatically to the hoopskirt and crinoline-supported styles of the 1860s; then fullness was draped and drawn to the back. Dresses had a "day" bodice with a high neckline and long sleeves, and an "evening" bodice with a low neckline (decollete) and very short sleeves.
Throughout this period, the length of fashionable dresses varied only slightly, between ankle-length and floor-sweeping.

Usage:
In most varieties of formal dress codes in Western cultures, a dress of an appropriate style is mandatory for women. They are also very popular for special occasions such as proms or weddings. For such occasions they remain the de facto standard attire for most women.

For this ready-to-wear collection Noelle has designed Maxi Dresses, Party Dresses ,Glam Cocktail Dresses , Statement Necklaces and Sleeves. The main fabrics she has used are Cotton, Cotton Jersey, Velvet, Organza, Lace, Chiffon, Satin Silk and Faux Fur.
Noelle mainly derives her inspiration from nature’s plants and flowers, history’s costumes from old ages, past & present style icons or from everyday life. But she is also inspired by special and exceptional fabrics. She loves nothing better than scouring the world for fabrics. Often a glimpse of a new fabric will spark the visualization of a new design. When she starts to sketch a design Noelle always has the fabrics lying in front of her. “This is very much part of the creative process”, says Noelle
“I see my designs being worn by women between the ages of 20 to 60 years old. I want women that wear my designs to feel comfortable, feminine and secure in themselves” remarks Noelle.
NoĆ«lle Adam is Dutch and worked as a Barrister in Criminal Law in Amsterdam for more than ten years. Even while working in the legal profession she was already wearing suits designed by herself.
Noelle decided to move further into fashion after she graduated with a “Diploma in Fashion Design” by world renowned UK Fashion Institute. After she was named one of the winners of the Dubai Fashion Week’s Emerging Talent Competition in 2009 she decided to start her own Label “Noelle Adam.”

What is a Maxi dress:
A maxi dress is a floor or ankle length informal dress. Maxi dresses are formfitting at the top and loose flowing at the bottom, cut to flow over the body. They are usually made out of cotton or polyester and come in a variety of necklines, colors and patterns.
The Savvy Sassy definition is a long flowing dress that makes moms very happy during the summer!  A Maxi dress is easy to throw on, chic and super comfortable.  You can either wear them with flip flops for a casual beach look or dress them up with fun accessories and some summer wedges!

Length – Make sure it is not too short and cuts you off at the ankles this may make you look shorter than you are or that it shruck in the wash.  It should not drag on the floor either, you should take the time to hem a dress that is too long.  Some brands carry petite length for those of us under 5’4;)

Large Breasts / Plus Size – If you are lucky to be well endowed you should wear a maxi dress with straps.  A halter style or wider straps are best. Why?  Well, because if you do not have straps to hold those girls up it can be overwhelming for those around you because it looks like they may pop out at any moment.  Straps will also prevent any sagging.

Small Breasts- You can get away with the strapless because well those little girls are safe and secure.  However by wearing one with straps it creates more definition around that area or if the straps are wide enough you can wear a bra to push those puppies up.  You may wany to also consider a belt around the waist so it shows some curves.  You don’t want to look like you just threw on a sheet.

Prints – Be careful some large prints look very cheap and a little tacky, make sure you have a BOLD print personality.  Choosing a solid color Maxi dress is sometimes makes more of a statement if you pair it with the right accessories.  If you choose a printed maxi dress cinched at the waist is best or use a belt to break up the pattern.  I like the smaller floral patterns, they look boho- chic and romantic.

Shoes- Maxi dresses are suppose to be pretty casual so cute sandals or flip flops are perfect.  If you are looking to dress it up or add some height, wedges and espadrilles are best.  All of the nude, taupe and neutral tone sandals and wedges are great because they go with so many things and those wedges can work their way into fall with jeans as well.

In the 1940s, stylish socialites and the hottest Hollywood starlets wore brightly colored dresses with long, full-tiered skirts. Designers drew inspiration for these so-called patio, or squaw, dresses from traditional Native American and Southwestern designs. Though the patio dress soon fell out of fashion, this ankle-grazing dress style was revived during the 1960s when women from all walks of life embraced the colorful, free-flowing maxi dress. Unfortunately, by the late '70s, these long, billowing dresses had once again been relegated to the clearance racks.
After the sky-high hemlines of the early 21st century, the maxi dress gained a whole new generation of fans, as women everywhere sought out a comfortable, low-key alternative to the mini-skirts and impossibly short shorts of the period. However, the maxi dress is no longer the voluminous mound of polyester it was in the 1970s. Today's designers rely on cotton and other fine fabrics, which keep the wearer feeling cool and breezy, even on the hottest summer days. Modern maxi dresses also offer a much more flattering fit, with plenty of styles to accentuate any figure.
Dressed up with simple jewelry and heeled shoes, these dresses give the wearer a look of casual sophistication that's appropriate at a summer party or even at the office. Dressed down with flip-flops and some funky bangles, the maxi dress offers the perfect way to stay cool and comfortable at the beach or on vacation.
But what if you're petite or plus-size? Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to be a runway model to pull off this look. Part of the fun of the maxi dress is that with the right accessories and styling, this dress can work for bodies of all shapes and sizes

Make the Dress Work for You:
The key to pulling off a maxi dress lies in finding just the right fit for your body. Women who are of average or below average height may try on one of these dresses and find themselves swimming in a sea of fabric. To create a flattering look, choose a dress with a hemline that just grazes the top of your feet -- don't go any shorter than your ankle. For petite women, this may mean having the dress tailored to fit, or simply hemming it yourself if you've got a bit of sewing skill. For taller women, finding the correct length often requires trying on a few different brands or styles until you find one that falls just right.
Once you've found the right length, it's time to eliminate that tent-like look that so many associate with the maxi dress. One of the easiest ways to do this is to focus on material and cut. Seek out fabrics that drape just right over your curves, yet are still loose enough around those areas you'd rather keep hidden. A maxi with an empire waist or A-line design can make you look slimmer, while a V-neck helps to elongate the body. Pleats or tiers can help petite girls look more proportional, while halter-tops make big shoulders appear smaller.
The right accessories can also help you create a lean, sleek silhouette. Wear a belt around the narrowest part of your waste to emphasize your shape, or simply add a jacket or blazer for structure.
Even color and pattern can play a role in whether or not your dress flatters your figure. Plus-sized women should steer clear of intricate patterns and stick to medium or large prints. Petite ladies can pull off small prints, but they should avoid larger patterns that can overwhelm their shape. Dark, solid colors can make anyone look slimmer, and they offer the most versatility in terms of where the dress can be worn.
And of course, what would any dress be without the perfect pair of shoes? To balance out the length of the maxi dress, many women turn to platforms, wedges or espadrilles, which add height and length to the body. Taller women, or those looking for a more casual look, can wear these dresses with gladiator sandals or even flip-flops. Save the spiky heels for another day, as they can easily get caught in your long skirt and trip you up. Avoid boots and closed-toe shoes, which make can make you look dowdy and dated.
