Dresses Online Biography
Source(google.com.pk)
This information is provided to inform people of the risks of buying online from sites that appear to make amazing offers. At the bottom of the page, there are sample images of what some people have received.
BE CAREFUL:
What you see is NOT what you will get on these sites. ALL the images you see are stolen from big designers and then they make cheap copies. Some are ok but most are very bad so it's a big risk.
If you order a dress, you do not know which factory will make your dress so that's why some are ok and most a disaster. To be able to export from China, the seller must have a permit and many smaller factories don't have them. However, these web sites are NOT FACTORIES but they meet the requirements and hundreds of small and medium size factories sell their products there (a little like selling on eBay but without the "auction" element and without being identified) so if you think about that, you will see why the quality varies from just about acceptable to totally unwearable and only fit for the bin,
More than 50% of the comments on their page are customers complaining but every day, they delete the comments and block the people so now there are Facebook pages set up by unhappy customers who are blocked from commenting by these sites. Tidebuy and TBDress are examples of this.
Testimonials:
One point to be aware of is "Testimonials". They mean NOTHING because they decide which testimonials to publish and which to block. And in reality, most of what you see could be written by them as there is no way to check. And on their Facebook wall, they can delete or hide comments. Many people have already discovered this.
Are the ALL bad?
In a word, NO! Not all sites are bad but great care must be taken. It's an old expression but still true -
If it seems too good to be true, it IS too good to be true! Walk away and don't be fooled.
How to Spot the Scammers & Fakes:
Here are a few pointers.
1. If you see the same high quality images on site after site or see images with "blurred" out faces or heads cut off, these images are stolen and the dresses you are looking at were NOT made by that site. You are unlikely to receive a dress that is well made or that looks like that beautiful tempting image.
2. If they are difficult to contact or customer service does not respond quickly, walk away. I always suggest that if possible, to actually SPEAK with them before you proceed.
3. Where are they based? Let's face it, there are many high quality factories in China and I've been in many of them. There are many big brand names who manufacture there so there is amazing quality. However, if the SELLER is based in China, you would find it almost impossible to get any satisfaction if something goes wrong and legal action is simply not an option. Stick with sellers in USA, Canada, Europe, Australia etc. but beware that some of these sites also use domains or "virtual offices" that make them look like they are based in the USA, Canada, UK etc.
4. Also, some of these sites have a toll free USA number. But these calls can be diverted to any phone anywhere in the world and for a few dollars a month, anybody can get a USA telephone number and contact address. Check out their customer support hours as they will give a better indication of where they are based.
OWN FACTORY?
Many of the sites claim to have their "own factory". This is a lie! Most are in fact not even garment companies, they are technology based companies (that explains the "slick" web sites) and they front up as a Dress Factory. Many use a "bidding system" and how this works is as follows:
They have a panel of registered suppliers who have access to a part of the web site that the general public never see. Please remember that the main Chinese city that supplies the dresses has over 1,200 Wedding Dress factories. Not 120 but 1,200. Some good, some bad.
You see a dress and place an order for it.
They post your "order" for their Supplier Panel to allow them to "bid" for the work.
The lowest "bid" gets the work so your dress could just as easily be made by a rank amateur as by a highly professional factory. However, most likely it will NOT be a professional factory and this explains the wild variations in quality.
SAMPLES OF THEIR WORK:
See the attached images at the bottom of this page. These are actual dresses produced by the "amazing deal" websites.
SHOPPING ONLINE IS SAFE!
Yes, shopping online is safe but only if you do your homework properly. I can recommend these sites that are not in China and my recommendations are based on personal (or friends) experience, my professional knowledge of this business and my research into the companies and their customer service offering:
SAFE SITES:
www.LailaMonroe.com - free shipping on all dresses and all dresses are made to size - including plus sizes. My fiance has ordered her Wedding Dress from here and I know the factory that makes their dresses. It's one of the very best in China and is used by at least four top name designer brands. I like this company a lot because they are different and seem to out the customer first. And they are easy to contact and very helpful. And if you send them a pic of any dress, they can make it for you.
www.bestbridalprices.com - good company selling a wide range of big brands but expensive shipping depending on where you live. Many of the "brand" names they sell are made in China and I know many of the factories. Despite the name, they also do Proms and other dresses. Only standard sizes. Good professional company and easy to contact..
www.NewYorkDress.com - Sell many top brands and are good company but they only do "standard" sizes. As above, many of the brand names they sell are made in Chinese factories I visit and the quality is excellent. Shipping is extra on many items. Easy to contact and never heard any bad reports about them. They carry large stocks and their prices are quite high but quality is excellent.
www.promgirl.com - Same comments as for New York Dress but only for prom dresses. www.simplydresses.com is part of the same company.
www.amandalinasbridalandprom.com - Another good company selling a wide range of big brands so expect high prices and expensive shipping depending on where you live. Many of the "brand" names they sell are made in China. Only standard sizes
www.dresses.com - They sell their own brand dresses only but unlike Laila Monroe, they only offer standard sizes only and don't have a "custom" dress service. As the name suggests, they stock a wide range of dresses including bridal, proms, cocktail etc. Seems to be a good company and no negative reports. Charge extra for shipping.
www.edressme.com and www.edressmeprom.com - Good company selling multiple brand names in standard sizes only. Free ground shipping in USA on orders over $150. Expect to pay about $90+ for international shipping and prices are as would be expected for designer dresses. Does not sell bridal dresses.
www.dessy.com - Wedding and Bridal party dresses only and standard sizes only. For wedding dresses, orders take 3 months to arrive. Charge extra for shipping. They also supply thousands of stores around the world so their prices are higher than a dedicated online store. Good company and to date, haven't heard any negative comments.
www.weddingshoppeinc.com - A well established "bricks and mortar" with a single store store that also sell online. Expect to pay top dollar as they sell many leading "designer" names (the same "Chinese factories" comment applies here). Charge extra for shipping.
www.davidsbridal.com - As a long established "bricks and mortar" stores with about 290 outlets, they have high overheads. Sell many big brand names so the same "Chinese factories" comment applies here. Limited online shopping and they charge extra for international shipping. Some complaints but that's to be expected for such a big company so they seem ok if a little expensive.
